A Little About ME:

“As we go through life, we grow and transform - my art has grown right alongside me”

Growing up, I didn’t take any art classes in school. I thought because I couldn’t draw I was not meant to make art. My artist days started more like crafting and it was not until I was in my very late 30s. When everyone was making their perfect scrapbook pages and cards I was tearing paper - creating my version of cards.  At this time, I did not realize that the very act of physically tearing paper would become the basis of my original, textured paintings. My textured cards evolved into notebooks with the original torn paper art as the covers. In 2009, I started mixing paper with paints and took a “Learn To Draw” course at our local arts center. The instructor kindly told me “You’re a painter”. I took that to heart, laughed, and responded “Yes, that is where my passion lies”.

From Stationery to Original Works:

I spent many years creating art for stationery products. I had a line of greeting cards and notebooks that were sold worldwide as well as several licensing opportunities.   This allowed my work to reach areas of the world such as Scotland, Dubai, the UK, and the United States. In creating these products my art practice evolved from creating art with inspirational words for product-oriented sales to florals and abstracts. Torn paper has always been a theme throughout.

During Covid, I stopped producing my stationery products and focused more on original works for clients’ homes. I also wanted to create work that was sustainable and timeless. During this time, not only did my artistic style change but the sizes of my pieces evolved.

A Mentorship:

My mentor, Joe Bembridge of Gallery Merrick challenged me to think about my process in different ways.  He challenged me to contemplate the type of work to produce: “What work resonates within me and what would I like to put out into the world”?

Collage: An Original Process that resonates within me:

I love building layers of texture with torn paper and I am drawn to tactile surfaces. I love abstract work and the hidden marks that can be found.  This allows for one’s imagination to run wild.  My process involves ripping up the original
