When life is overwhelming and the news often grim, I am so grateful to have space in my home to disappear into a land of whimsy as I create layers of joy to (hopefully) live in homes of my collectors.
Just Some Whimsy
I often photograph my art before sealing it to avoid any glare. I am told that when someone sees my work in real life, the colours appear much brighter and the texture is more pronounced. It’s hard to capture it all in a photograph. While I was sealing Wildflower Whimsy, I was reminded of how many times I had painted different flowers to get just the right ones I wanted to express with this piece. I was reminded that painting larger flowers for larger pieces is harder for me than when I am creating for smaller works, and I was reminded of how I wanted to convey the joy I was feeling in that moment.
This piece in real life is so darn cheerful, and it makes me smile every time I look at it. I can see it in many different styles of rooms, from an office space, perhaps a counseling office, or in an entryway. I could also look wonderful in a living room or even a child’s bedroom. SO many options to choose from.

Textured Blooms Original Art
This pretty floral collage was a lot of fun to create. I love it when I get to tear up abstract work on paper and turn it into playful flowers. I love them as they come to life and their character shows through. Creating the character to bring each flower alive and how they are assembled creates even more whimsy.
As the flower was drying I saw the curl of the petals and decided not to stick it down fully because I loved how the curl gave it a bit more depth. The background is all made of torn paper, with a torn-up piece of painted canvas and drywall tape for texture.

Whispers Of Spring
When you start noticing the buds on the trees and the bulbs you planted in the fall are poking through the dirt, these are the whispers of spring. I love this time of year. Signs of new life, warmer weather, and more sunshine will soon be here and I can’t wait. Along with the sunshine comes the flowers and the smells of summer. Ahhh I love living in a place where all four seasons are so distinct.

When I originally made Paper Blooms I had the idea to submit it to an art show but I changed my mind. I decided I wanted to release it here instead. Paper Blooms is a whimsical floral that’s cheerful and reminds me of warmer months. I love creating happy art. Art that brightens a day or evokes warmth. There is only one original and it has all the texture, the energy, and my spirit. Because I like to allow for more affordable options, this design is also available as a print in larger formats, as a greeting card, and as a digital download, you can print at your leisure from home or through a print company.
Every Year The Leaves Fall
Every year the leaves fall and I tell myself I should create some autumn-themed art and this year I managed to get it done. It started with a walk with my dogs. There is a path by my home and it becomes thick with maple leaves under my feet. I decided to collect a couple and bring them home with me. I chose one large leaf and two smaller leaves. Once home, I tore off some parchment paper, covered them with a heavy book leaving them over them to flatten and dry.

Once home, I tore off some parchment paper and covered them with a heavy book. I left them to press for a couple of days to flatten and dry.

It took a couple of days, but I finally achieved the result I was hoping for: the leaves were flattened and dry. At that point, I wasn’t entirely sure of the composition I had in mind, so I began to roughly trace the outline of the largest leaf. I started with the largest leaf because I knew I wanted to incorporate at least one sizable leaf in the final piece. Once traced it was time to collage it.
OOOH this was fun and finicky!
In preparing for this project I created in advance several colourful hand-painted abstract works on paper so I was able to start the tearing process right away. Tiny pieces of torn paper helped to create the colourful abstract leaf shown here. Once this was created I went through the same process for the smaller leaves.

After I had all the leaves collaged and cut out I took some time to play around with the placement. Once I thought I had decided where everything would go I left it overnight to revisit the next day. Turned out another leaf was needed to and so I got busy creating another leaf.
All the leaves in a stack is quite the colourful display.
I’ve never been one that defines a season strictly by colour and since I love bright colours these leaves are just that, colourful. Now that all the leaves have been created and the placement decided I got going on creating the backdrop of torn paper.
Creating this 20-inch collage was a time-consuming process, but the result was absolutely worth it. I love the textured effect, which reminds me of layers of leaves scattered on the ground. The playful, vibrant colors bring a lively energy to any space, especially on dreary days when they can really brighten up a room.
