The Torn Edges of Life Are Beautiful
Mixing the bits and pieces of art and life
![]() I know it isn't Christmas any more but the snowflakes are still falling in many parts of Canada and the United States these days. However, this new art piece I have created really has nothing to do with a season and everything to do with raising money for an important cause. Mental health seems to be a hot topic these days. Awareness and education is totally needed to erase the stigma surrounding those who sufferer from mental health issues. From day one I have supported Carol Todd and her desire to carry on her daughter's dream of helping people. Carol and I were chatting the other day and she asked what I thought of making a "second edition" of Snowflakes for a Cause. Carol works tirelessly for the charity named after her daughter, Amanda Todd. After Amanda died, Carol literally threw herself into creating awareness for mental health issues, bullying issues and teaching parents and teens about internet safety and how we can keep our children safe. Carol has made such a difference in this world and continues to raise her voice in many different platforms all in the name of her daughter, Amanda. It's amazing how one young girl created such a swirl in this world. Her viral video has likely been viewed by millions and her style, like any memorable artist, copied by the masses. I loved the use of her "voice" in her video - the cue cards. So many have difficulty voicing out loud how they are speaking. Amanda has given many the voice of self expression via a video with cue cards. We all just want to be heard, right? Writing out how you feel is often easier than talking out loud and for some, like myself, working through my emotions using art is paramount. Her words and the soundtrack she chose echoed like an anthem throughout the world. She touched so many with her story and now, her Mom uses her voice and it is articulate, strong and full of purpose and hope. So when Carol asked me if I would make a new piece in support of the Amanda Todd Legacy Society I said "Absolutely". When I created Snowflakes for a Cause I gave the original to Carol. This time, I will offer up the original to all and, like with Snowflakes for a Cause, prints will be also available with full proceeds from all sales surrounding this image going to the Amanda Todd Legacy Society.
